Life in the UK
Living in the UK is an exciting but difficult time for many International students.
Things we help students with are listed below.

International student cards
If you want a student card you need a school letter saying that you;
  1. Study 15 hours a week
  2. Study for more than 26 weeks
You must take the school letter to the STA shop. There is one rigth next to our front door!
At the STA shop you must give the people
  1. The School letter
  2. Proof of ID like passport
  3. £10
  4. A passport photo
They will make a card for you. You can use this to get many discounts, including travel discounts on trains and buses. If you are older than 26 you may not get the same discounts.

Transport tickets and discounts

 To get a student discount on travel you must have an STA International Student card. See above. Different Bus companies have different rules, but most in manchester accept the International student card.

Finding a doctor/dentist

  • Doctor
    • Follow the instructions to find a doctor, dentist etc. Contact the doctor or visit their surgery.
    • If you are an EU Citizen or have a visa you will receive free treatment.
      You must usually pay for a dentist, but you will receive a discount if you are registered to a doctor. It is difficult even for English people to find a dentist!
Opening a bank account
If you are a student at the school and you are on a course of 15 hours or more and for more than 26 weeks we can make you a letter which can be used in an application to Lloyds bank. An Account is not guaranteed, you must also have an interview at the bank.
Alternatively, if you have 2 bills (not telephone bills) and ID you can open any kind of account.
Finally, if you do not have 2 bills you need to pay for a bank account; £6 per month, 12 month contract with the HSBC International account;
